The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has suspended the party membership of six members elected to the Beruwala Urban Council following their failure to comply with internal party directives during the recent Local Government (LG) election.
According to party sources, the six councilors disregarded decisions made by both the SJB Management Committee and Working Committee regarding the selection of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Council.
In response, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara has issued an official letter suspending the six members with immediate effect.
It has been reported that the suspended members voted in favor of a National People’s Power (NPP) candidate during the election to appoint the new Chairman of the Beruwala Urban Council, contrary to the party’s agreed position.
This move underscores the SJB’s stance on maintaining party discipline and unity, especially in the context of key local government decisions.
