Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has called on the Central Bank to introduce a clear and targeted policy framework for providing loans to entrepreneurs.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake emphasized the need for formal recommendations to guide banks in extending credit facilities to individuals launching new businesses.
He proposed that specific loan schemes be developed for key sectors and underscored the importance of prioritizing support for youth, women, and first-time entrepreneurs.
“Although this issue has been widely discussed, there is still no permanent solution in place,” the MP said, stressing the urgency of implementing structured policies to stimulate entrepreneurial growth and economic development.
