While Sri Lankans often complain about the chaos in Colombo, the city continues to receive praise from Indian visitors.
Last week, Indian filmmaker Hansal Mehta, during a visit to Colombo, drew a sharp comparison between the Sri Lankan capital and his hometown, Mumbai.
“A country struggling with an economic crisis and recent political turmoil, but its capital (Colombo) is cleaner, more organized, and more respectable than the financial capital of a rising superpower,” Mehta wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Every time I return to Mumbai, I am horrified by not only the dirt, the chaos, the crumbling infrastructure, but also our collective indifference to it,” he added.
Reflecting on Mumbai, Mehta said, “I still believe I love this city. It has given me everything. But it has been strangled by those in power.”
