August 20, 2025

The Premier Hockey League (PHL) Sri Lanka is set to return this November with its second season, cementing its place as one of the island’s most anticipated sporting events. The announcement was made at a press conference, where organizers confirmed that the tournament will run throughout the month, beginning in the first week of November.

Nine teams, including Police, Army, Navy, Air Force, BRC, CH, CR, Old Senanayakians Sports Club (DS), and Royal College Hockey Club, will battle for supremacy in this year’s competition. The tournament is being organized by the NextGen Hockey Development Society in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

Building on the success of its inaugural season, which featured top international players from India and Pakistan, Season 2 promises an even stronger international presence. Organizers expect the infusion of global talent to raise the level of play and deliver thrilling moments for hockey fans across the country.

This year’s matches will be hosted in Colombo and Matale, two of Sri Lanka’s leading hockey hubs, with the aim of broadening the sport’s reach and driving greater fan engagement. In addition to the main competition, a development squad will be introduced to identify and nurture emerging local talent, strengthening the pipeline for future international representation.

Organizers also acknowledged the crucial role played by sponsors, media partners, former players, and the hockey community in ensuring the success of the league.

Kamal Pushpakumara, President of the NextGen Hockey Development Society, emphasized the significance of the tournament, saying: “The Premier Hockey League is not just about showcasing elite hockey—it is about inspiring the next generation of players. With an expanded lineup, world-class foreign athletes, and the unwavering support of our partners, Season 2 is set to be spectacular.”

The Premier Hockey League continues to uphold its commitment to excellence, transparency, and sportsmanship, with organizers confident that every match will provide fans with unforgettable sporting action.
