A meeting was held on the 21st at the Parliamentary Complex to discuss proposals for promoting school sports and addressing existing challenges, with officials from the Ministries of Education and Sports and Youth Affairs, along with Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, in attendance.

During the discussion, participants emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the two ministries to tackle issues affecting school sports, including licensing challenges faced by sports associations, difficulties encountered by coaches, and the development of sports schools.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all students to participate in sports and stressed the need to foster a school sports culture that prioritizes the physical and mental well-being of students over competitiveness.

She also recommended regular meetings between the ministries to continue addressing ongoing issues and noted the plan to establish a computer-based application system for students to register for sports competitions, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.
