August 6, 2025

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has revealed that nearly 8,500 imported vehicles are currently stuck at the Hambantota and Colombo ports.

According to him, 7,722 vehicles remain at the Hambantota Port, while another 772 are held at the Colombo Port.

Speaking at a media briefing, Karunanayake stressed that the government must act urgently to resolve the issue. He noted that if complications arise regarding the importation of certain vehicles, authorities have two options: either release the vehicles by imposing a fine or proceed with re-exporting them.
