Six individuals, including five of Sri Lanka’s most notorious underworld figures and a woman, have been arrested in Jakarta, Indonesia, during a joint operation conducted by the Sri Lankan Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Indonesian Police.
Police confirmed that the arrested underworld figures are known by their aliases: ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’, ‘Commando Salinda’, ‘Panadura Nilanga’, ‘Thembili Lahiru’, and ‘Backhoe Saman’.
In addition, the wife of ‘Backhoe Saman’ and a three-year-old child were also taken into custody during the raid.
Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F. U. Wootler, stated that the arrests were the result of a coordinated international operation between the CID and the Indonesian Police.
