Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP), MP Ravi Karunanayake, has criticized the government, claiming it has no concrete plan to reduce the cost of living for the people.
Karunanayake recalled that during the UNP-led government in 2015, inflation was controlled and several concessions were extended to the public. He noted that his administration not only reduced the prices of essential goods but also ensured those prices remained stable over time.
He stressed that a similar strategy is urgently needed today, pointing out that although official figures suggest a decline in inflation, the purchasing power of ordinary citizens has not improved.
“The economy should be managed in a way that allows people to live with dignity,” Karunanayake said, emphasizing that this can only be achieved through sound economic management.
