CEB Trade Unions Launch Work-to-Rule Campaign

September 5, 2025

The work-to-rule campaign launched by Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions at midnight yesterday (04) is currently underway.

Union representatives said the industrial action is being carried out to press 16 demands, including resolving concerns linked to the government’s restructuring of the CEB.

Several trade unions — including the Nidahas Sewaka Sangamaya, the Podujana Progressive Workers’ Union, and the Engineers’ Union — are taking part in the campaign. This was confirmed by CEB Engineers’ Union executive committee member Dhanushka Parakramasinghe.

Under the new electricity law, which came into effect on August 27, the CEB is being restructured into four separate entities. Employees are to be assigned to these companies, and letters allowing them to indicate their preferred placement have already been issued.
