Government Spent Over Rs. 491 Million on Former Presidents and Widows Since 2017

The government has disclosed that a total of Rs. 491.2 million (Rs. 491,203,422) has been spent on pensions, vehicles, and other recurring expenses for former presidents and their widows between 2017 and the first half of 2025.

According to the report, beneficiaries include former presidents Chandrika Kumaratunga, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maithripala Sirisena, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Ranil Wickremesinghe, as well as Hema Premadasa, widow of the late President R. Premadasa.

The report further noted that Hema Premadasa, Chandrika Kumaratunga, and Mahinda Rajapaksa have been receiving benefits since 2017, Maithripala Sirisena since 2019, Gotabaya Rajapaksa since 2022, and Ranil Wickremesinghe since 2024.
