Former UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake has stated that Sri Lanka’s rising income is a result of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s efforts to build the economy without focusing on electoral considerations.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake noted that while expenditures have largely followed budget estimates, capital spending has experienced some adjustments. He emphasized that increasing the country’s foreign reserves is a priority at this stage.
The MP added that although debt repayments are scheduled to begin in April 2028, it is crucial to strengthen debt reserves beforehand. He stressed that boosting exports is the most effective way to achieve this goal.
