The resumption ceremony of the Kadawatha to Mirigama section of the Central Expressway project was held today under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
As part of the restart, work has begun on the Kadawatha interchange and the first 500 meters of the expressway. The government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for the project.
Construction of this section was suspended in mid-2022 after credit facilities were withdrawn due to the economic crisis. However, the Export-Import Bank of China has since approved a yuan loan equivalent to 500 million US dollars, enabling the resumption of work.
The 37-kilometer stretch between Kadawatha and Mirigama is scheduled for full completion by mid-2028.
