The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory stating that showers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers are also likely in several other parts of the island after 1:00 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm expected in some locations.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce risks from localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
