The United States and China have reportedly reached an agreement regarding the transfer of ownership of the short-form video app TikTok to the United States.
According to foreign media citing US officials, the matter will be discussed during a phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday.
TikTok’s owner, ByteDance, is set to be disabled in the United States on September 17 if it does not agree to relinquish ownership. However, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant indicated that the deadline could be extended to allow time for the deal to be finalized.
Commenting on the upcoming discussion, President Trump wrote on his TruthSocial account: “There was also a deal on a ‘company’ that our young people in our country want to save. They will be very happy! I will talk to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains very strong!!!”
