Police have urged the public to remain vigilant after the arrest of four suspects in possession of counterfeit Rs. 5000 notes in different parts of the country.
One suspect was first arrested in the Habarana area with three counterfeit notes. Acting on information provided during questioning, police arrested two more suspects in Habarana and Anuradhapura, who were found with two counterfeit notes.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect in Pihimbiyagollewa today, where police recovered 138 counterfeit Rs. 5000 notes along with a laptop computer, scanner, and printer believed to have been used in the operation.
The arrested suspects, aged between 23 and 42 years, are residents of Habarana and Anuradhapura.
The Habarana Police are conducting further investigations and have appealed to the public to exercise caution when handling currency notes in daily transactions.
