Meta has launched a new line of artificial intelligence–powered smart glasses, describing them as an essential accessory for users worldwide.
The announcement was made by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s annual developer conference, Meta Connect, where he revealed a series of devices developed in collaboration with global eyewear brands Ray-Ban and Oakley.
In addition to the glasses, Meta introduced a wristband designed to integrate with the Meta Ray-Ban Display, enabling users to perform functions such as sending messages.
The new product launch comes at a time when Meta’s platforms — Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — face increasing scrutiny in several countries over their influence on children and the broader impact of social media.
Zuckerberg described the new technology as a “major scientific breakthrough.” The Meta Ray-Ban Display features a full-color high-definition screen for video calls and viewing messages, along with a 12-megapixel camera.
Meta hopes the new smart glasses will serve as a key platform for embedding its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, more deeply into users’ everyday lives.
