Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake emphasized that Sri Lanka must prioritize cooperation with India through trade, rather than viewing it as a competitor.
Speaking to the media, he highlighted that India’s economy is valued at 3.3 trillion US dollars, making it the fourth-largest economy in the world. He further noted that India is on track to soon become the third-largest economy globally.
Given this trajectory, Karunanayake stressed that Sri Lanka should work in close partnership with India to ensure mutual economic benefits.
