Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake says the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda will now be able to renew driving licenses within 8 minutes.
The Minister noted that light vehicle licenses must be renewed every 8 years, while heavy vehicle licenses require renewal every 4 years.
“Previously, those wishing to renew their licenses had to visit the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda, but the fingerprint system was only available at the Department of Motor Traffic. Now, however, the public can obtain their medical certificate, submit fingerprints, make the necessary payments, and receive their temporary license — all at the same institute in Nugegoda. This process takes only 7 minutes and 47 seconds,” Minister Ratnayake said.
He made these remarks during the launch of the issuance of temporary driving licenses at the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda.
