Migrant Worker Remittances Increase by Over USD 140 Million in September

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has announced that Sri Lankan migrant workers remitted a total of USD 695.7 million to the country in September this year.

This figure marks a significant increase compared to the USD 555.6 million received in the same month last year, reflecting a year-on-year growth of USD 140.1 million.

From 1 January to date this year, total foreign remittances have reached USD 5,811.7 million, compared to USD 4,843.8 million during the same period in 2024. This represents an increase of USD 967.9 million.

Meanwhile, the CBSL report revealed that tourism earnings for September 2025 stood at USD 182.9 million. The total tourism income recorded from 1 January to 30 September this year was also USD 182.9 million
