The Government has recognized the promotion of sports and development of sports infrastructure in the Northern Province, which continues to recover from long-standing social conflicts and challenges, as a national priority.
To support this objective, a proposal has been made to construct an indoor stadium in the Jaffna District to promote indoor sports such as table tennis, tennis, badminton, netball, and chess among schools and sports clubs in the region.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to construct the Jaffna Indoor Stadium, complete with modern facilities, at an estimated cost of Rs. 170 million.
