A meeting was held at the Parliament Complex to review the progress of releasing privately owned lands in the Jaffna and Palaly areas that are currently under military use.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Deputy Minister of Defence Retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, and Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku.
The discussion focused on accelerating the government’s efforts to resolve land-related issues, which form a key component of the national reconciliation process.
According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the key matters addressed included finalizing boundary re-demarcation, expediting the compensation process, prioritizing land plots for release, and overcoming administrative challenges.
The Ministry further emphasized the importance of ensuring a transparent and equitable process that would enable legitimate landowners to reclaim their properties without compromising essential security infrastructure.
Members of Parliament, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Tri-Forces Commanders, the Inspector General of Police, and other senior security and administrative officials also attended the session.
