Prevailing rainy conditions are expected to continue in the Northern and Eastern provinces today (14) due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance developing to the east of the island, the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers may occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall of above 75 mm is likely at certain locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The Department added that misty conditions can be expected in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara district during the early hours of the morning.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
