A large-scale cannabis cultivation operation has been uncovered and destroyed following a joint raid by the Bandarawela Divisional Crime Investigation Unit and troops from the Diyatalawa Army Camp.
The two-day operation was carried out in the Ilukthenna Reserve under the Haldummulla Police Division, where multiple cannabis plantations spread across several acres were discovered.
According to police, the seized cannabis cultivations covered the following areas:

Two plots measuring approximately 2.5 acres

One plot measuring approximately 2 acres

One plot measuring approximately 1 acre

One plot measuring approximately 0.5 acres

One plot measuring approximately 0.25 acres
In addition, officers recovered around 115 kilograms of dried cannabis from the site.
After collecting samples for court proceedings, the entire plantation was destroyed by fire.
Police said the suspects had fled the area prior to the raid, and investigations are now underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
