The All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) has donated 1,000,000 yuan (approximately Rs. 43 million) worth of materials to enhance the well-being and development of women and children in Sri Lanka.
The donation includes equipment to establish a ‘mother and child’ room and a childcare center for the children of staff members of the Sri Lankan Parliament. It also includes feminine hygiene products to be distributed through the Women Parliamentarians’ Forum.
The official handover ceremony was held at the Parliament premises under the patronage of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.
The items were formally presented by the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, to the Speaker and the Minister of Women and Children Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, who also serves as President of the Women Parliamentarians’ Forum.
This initiative stems from discussions held in 2023 and 2024 between the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the ACWF, during which China pledged financial support for future projects in Sri Lanka, including assistance for school uniforms and other women and child empowerment programs.
