Tamil Nadu Sends Largest Single Disaster Relief Shipment to Sri Lanka

Continuing relief efforts for those affected by recent disasters in Sri Lanka, the Tamil Nadu government in India has provided a substantial consignment of essential food supplies.

Three ships carrying the aid arrived at Colombo Port yesterday (December 7), while a fourth ship is scheduled to dock at Trincomalee Port today (December 8).

Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, representing the Sri Lankan government, participated in receiving the aid at Colombo Port yesterday. The event was also attended by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha and other officials.

The shipment includes 300 tonnes of lentils, 300 tonnes of sugar, and 25 tonnes of milk powder, amounting to a total of 950 tonnes of relief supplies. Dispatched from the ports of Chennai and Thoothukudi, this consignment is believed to be the largest single shipment sent by a state to an international disaster zone.
