The “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative, launched to restore the country after Cyclone Ditwah, has secured a total of Rs. 1,893 million from domestic sources, overseas Sri Lankans, and various institutions, Finance Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma confirmed.
Dr. Suriyapperuma also noted that the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka recently led a discussion with heads of all insurance companies to establish a compensation framework for cyclone-affected businesses and properties.
The meeting revealed that insurance companies have already started implementing a fast-track compensation mechanism. Immediate payouts for minor property damage are underway, while compensation for major damages will follow after detailed assessments. Representatives confirmed that a portion of funds will be disbursed immediately, even before full evaluations are completed.
