Parliament has approved a Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 500 billion to restore livelihoods affected by the recent sudden disaster and to rebuild damaged infrastructure.
The Supplementary Estimate was presented to Parliament on December 18 by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya for parliamentary approval.
Following a debate held on December 19 from 10.00 a.m. to 6.10 p.m., the proposal was approved without a vote.
Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, attended Parliament on December 19 and participated in the debate on securing approval for the Rs. 500 billion Supplementary Estimate.
