The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has reported an increase in financial fraud cases involving individuals who falsely claim to sell goods online.
SLCERT’s Chief Information Security Engineer, Nirosh Ananda, advised the public to obtain accurate and reliable information about sellers or organisations before placing online orders.
He also noted that, in recent days, complaints have been received regarding fraudulent activities linked to offers of financial assistance for people affected by disasters.
SLCERT has therefore urged the public to remain vigilant when buying or selling goods online and to be cautious of suspicious offers.
