The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers today (28) in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected in Sabaragamuwa province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts after 2:00 p.m. Some areas may receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm.
Fairly strong winds reaching up to 40 kmph are likely at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in Hambantota, Monaragala, and Trincomalee districts.
Misty conditions are expected in the early hours at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in Galle and Matara districts.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
