Dhammika Prasad Appointed Fast Bowling Coach for USA Men’s Cricket Team

December 28, 2025

Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Dhammika Prasad has been appointed as the fast bowling coach and assistant coach of the United States men’s national cricket team.

The USA team is set to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka and India from February 7 to March 8, 2026.

Prasad, a seasoned right-arm fast bowler who represented Sri Lanka between 2006 and 2015, brings extensive international experience from 25 Tests, 24 ODIs, and one T20 International. Known for his ability to strike quickly with the new ball, he played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s historic Test series victory in England in 2014.

Since retiring from international cricket in 2021, Prasad has taken on roles as a bowling coach and consultant at the international level. In his new position with USA Cricket, he will work closely with the national team’s fast bowlers, helping them refine their skills and tactical awareness ahead of the World Cup.

The US men’s team enters the 2026 T20 World Cup with growing confidence. After co-hosting the 2024 tournament with the West Indies, the USA reached the Super 8 stage for the first time and automatically qualified for the 2026 event following a Super Over victory over Pakistan.

In the 2026 World Cup, the USA has been placed in a competitive Group A alongside defending champions India, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands. Their campaign begins with a high-profile opening match against India on February 7, 2026, providing a stern test for the developing American team.
