Dollar Reserves Dwindling; Urgent Measures Needed, Says Ravi Karunanayake

December 25, 2025

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake expressed concern over the country’s dwindling dollar reserves.

Speaking at a media briefing, he highlighted the serious issue of lacking a mechanism to replenish dollar reserves at a rate comparable to their current level of spending.

Ravi Karunanayake suggested that export activities should be urgently expanded to increase foreign exchange inflows. He also emphasized that foreign currency could be conserved by shifting to renewable energy sources instead of relying heavily on oil-dependent electricity generation.
