Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake directed questions to the government regarding the total value of gold-related loans provided by commercial banks and non-banking financial institutions from 2023 to 2025.
He also sought details on the annual growth, both in rupees and percentage terms, for gold loans, vehicle leases, and debit card credit over the same period. The MP raised these queries under Standing Order 27 (2).
Additionally, Ravi Karunanayake asked whether the Central Bank had identified any deterioration in credit quality or emerging risks in these three categories. If so, he inquired about the supervisory or corrective measures that had been prescribed to address these issues.
