Showers and Strong Winds Forecasted in Several Parts of Sri Lanka – Met Department

The Department of Meteorology has reported that showers are expected at times today (30) in Northern, Eastern, and Uva provinces, as well as in Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in some of these areas. Several spells of showers are also forecast for Kandy and Anuradhapura districts. After 2.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, and in Kalutara district.

Fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills and in Hambantota, Monaragala, and Ampara districts. Misty conditions are also likely during the early morning hours in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts.

The public is advised to take precautions to minimize potential damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
