All ranks of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force have donated one day’s basic salary to the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ fund, launched to support those affected by the recent cyclone and assist in national reconstruction.
The total contribution from the Tri-Forces amounted to Rs. 372,776,918.28. The breakdown of donations is as follows: Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Army – Rs. 250 million; Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Commander of the Navy – Rs. 73,963,879.71; and Air Marshal Vasu Bandu Edirisinghe, Commander of the Air Force – Rs. 48,813,038.97.
The cheques were handed over to the Secretary to the President, Dr. Sanath Nandika Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat on 31 December. Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, was also present.
