The Department of Meteorology says showery conditions are expected to intensify in the Eastern, Northern, and Uva provinces over the coming days, due to the development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance east of Sri Lanka.
Showers are expected at times in the Eastern, Central, North-Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Several spells of showers are also likely in the Northern Province.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is forecast at some locations in the Central and Uva provinces and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.
In other areas, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm possible in some locations.
A few showers may also occur in the coastal areas of the North-Western and Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
