Sri Lanka Railways to Resume Night Mail and Intercity Services After Cyclone Ditwah

Sri Lanka Railways has announced the resumption of several train services that were suspended due to Cyclone Ditwah, including the Night Mail trains to Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

According to the announcement:

  • The Night Mail train between Colombo Fort and Trincomalee will resume services from January 20.

  • The Pulathisi Intercity Express running between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa will also resume daily operations from January 20.

  • The Udaya Devi train service will be reinstated following the easing of disaster conditions, operating under a revised schedule.

Meanwhile, repair work on the Northern Railway Line, which was damaged by the cyclone, is set to begin on January 19, with financial assistance from the Government of India.

During the reconstruction period, train services will be limited to the Colombo Fort–Mahawa section until further notice.

Sri Lanka Railways said that details regarding the full resumption of services after the completion of repairs will be announced in due course.
