Air quality in several cities across Sri Lanka has deteriorated to unhealthy levels this morning due to a range of contributing factors, according to the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).
The NBRO warned that the Air Quality Index (AQI) has fallen to unhealthy levels in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Puttalam, and Galle.
As a result, residents in these areas may experience health effects, while individuals in sensitive groups—such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions—could face more serious health issues.
The NBRO has advised the general public to seek medical attention if sensitive individuals experience breathing difficulties or other related symptoms.
