Obstacles Still Remain to UNP–SJB Merger, Says Ravi Karunanayake

January 7, 2026

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake says that although a merger between the United National Party and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya must take place, there are still several individuals obstructing the process.

He stated that such individuals have become obstacles to the progress of both parties.

However, the MP pointed out that despite these challenges, the UNP and the SJB are moving forward with a common objective. He added that although UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has not directly taken part in the discussions, he has provided guidance on how to move forward on several occasions.

Therefore, the MP emphasized that it is essential for the two parties to merge and move ahead with a shared political purpose.

He expressed these views during a discussion with the website ceylonwire.lk.
