The Minister made these remarks while attending the opening ceremony of the Polpitiya Police Station on Friday (06).

Commenting on the rising trend in crime, he noted that between 23 and 25 cybercrime incidents are reported daily, describing this as a significantly high number.

He added that new technology, specialized expertise, and the modernization of the Sri Lanka Police are being systematically implemented to strengthen investigations and effectively address such crimes.

Minister Wijepala emphasized that the government’s primary objective is to transform the Sri Lanka Police into an efficient, professional, and corruption-free institution, adding that continuous efforts are underway to achieve this goal.

He further stated that a supportive environment is being created for capable officers to progress in their careers, while mechanisms are in place to remove officers involved in misconduct from the police service.
