The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched a series of special market raids to protect consumers ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.
According to an official statement, the raids aim to prevent traders from exploiting the current Middle East crisis by creating artificial shortages through hoarding essential goods such as food, gas and fuel.
The CAA said it is focused on curbing unfair price increases and ensuring that essential items remain available to the public.
To strengthen enforcement, all CAA investigation officers have been instructed to remain on duty, including during weekends and public holidays.
The Authority also warned that strict legal action will be taken against any trader found violating consumer protection laws during this period.
