Russia Pledges Support to Sri Lanka Amid Global Crisis

Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Marshavin has assured that Russia is ready to assist Sri Lanka in addressing challenges arising from the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The assurance was given during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today (26), according to the President’s Media Division.

Marshavin said Russia has a clear understanding of the difficulties faced by Sri Lanka in the current global context and is willing to extend support not only in the energy sector but also through technical assistance, machinery and other means.

He also expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to him and voiced confidence that bilateral relations between the two countries would be further strengthened through his visit.

President Dissanayake, recalling the long-standing ties between the two nations, noted that support provided by the former Soviet Union had played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s economic and social development.

He also highlighted Russia’s continued importance as a key source of tourists to Sri Lanka and expressed gratitude for educational opportunities provided to Sri Lankan students, as well as ongoing cooperation in international forums.

The President expressed confidence that the visit would further enhance relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by several senior Sri Lankan officials, including Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and Minister of Energy Kumar Jayakody, along with members of the Russian delegation led by Ambassador Levan S. Dzhagaryan.
