Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has called on the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to clarify the measures being taken to strengthen the rupee amid ongoing global economic challenges.
Speaking to the media, the MP highlighted that nearly 65 percent of consumer goods in Sri Lanka are imported, making the stability of the rupee a critical concern.
He stressed that strengthening the currency is essential under current conditions, warning that continued depreciation would place a heavy burden on the public through rising living costs.
However, he expressed concern that the actions taken so far by the Central Bank are insufficient to effectively address the situation, and urged authorities to adopt stronger and more practical measures to stabilise the rupee.
