The Department of Agrarian Development has announced that Agrarian Service Centers will remain open on public holidays to ensure the timely distribution of fertilizer to farmers in areas where Yala season paddy cultivation has begun.
In a statement, Commissioner General of Agrarian Development Dhammika Ranatunga said steps have been taken to keep relevant centers operational throughout public holidays and weekends in affected areas.
The government has also decided that fertilizers required for paddy cultivation will be distributed exclusively through government-run Agrarian Service Centers.
This move comes amid concerns over possible disruptions to the fertilizer supply chain due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, as well as attempts by certain parties to hoard fertilizer stocks.
The Commissioner General further noted that fertilizer distribution has already commenced in areas where Yala cultivation is underway, with a 50 kg bag of urea currently priced between Rs. 9,900 and Rs. 10,200.
