Trump gives Iran 48-hour ultimatum over Hormuz Strait

April 5, 2026

US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, giving it 48 hours to reach a deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning that “all hell will reign down” if the deadline is not met.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had earlier given Iran ten days to “make a deal or open up the Hormuz Strait,” adding that the window for action is now rapidly closing.

He did not specify what measures the United States would take if Iran fails to comply, but the warning comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over global oil supply disruptions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical النفط shipping routes, with roughly one-fifth of global oil passing through it. Any disruption is expected to have immediate and significant impacts on global energy markets.
