Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar says the party will only consider working with the United National Party (UNP) within the opposition.
Speaking at a public event, Marikkar described the UNP as the political origin of the SJB, using an analogy to illustrate the longstanding connection between the two parties.
He emphasized that the SJB, which he described as having a right-leaning political identity, will not align with individuals or groups accused of contributing to the country’s economic collapse.
Marikkar further stated that court rulings have held former leaders, including Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ajith Nivard Cabraal, responsible for the economic crisis, questioning the possibility of forming alliances with such figures.
He reiterated that the SJB’s political decisions will be guided by principles and accountability.
