April 9, 2026

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed Sri Lanka’s hope for the swift restoration of peace in the Middle East during a meeting held this morning (08) with the Council of Arab Ambassadors at the Presidential Secretariat.

During the discussion, ambassadors briefed the President on the challenges faced by countries in the region amid the ongoing conflict, highlighting threats to peace, security, and stability.

The President voiced concern over attacks targeting countries not directly involved in the conflict, stating that such actions are unacceptable under any circumstances.

He also conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the continued support extended by Middle Eastern nations, particularly in meeting energy needs, providing foreign employment opportunities, and supporting the tourism sector.

Noting that a significant number of Sri Lankan workers are employed in the region, President Dissanayake expressed gratitude for the measures taken to ensure their safety during the crisis.

He further affirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, in line with international law.

Several ambassadors, including representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, and Libya, were present at the meeting.
