The official welcome ceremony for Mohamed Muizzu, who arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday, is being held this morning at the Presidential Secretariat Sri Lanka under the patronage of Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
According to the Presidential Media Division Sri Lanka, President Muizzu is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with President Dissanayake focusing on strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit, covering cooperation in multiple sectors.
President Muizzu and his delegation are also due to participate in a special business forum in Colombo.
The Maldivian delegation includes First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, the Foreign Minister of the Maldives, senior Cabinet ministers, and other high-ranking officials.
This marks President Muizzu’s first official visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police have implemented a special traffic plan in Colombo and along routes connected to the Colombo Katunayake Expressway until May 6 due to the visit.
Police stated that traffic movement on certain routes will be restricted intermittently and advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
