The Qi Zhenhong has addressed an open letter to the youth of Sri Lanka, highlighting their vital role in shaping the nation’s future amid global change.
In his message, the Ambassador emphasized the growing relationship between Sri Lanka and China, noting that youth engagement is a key driver of this partnership. He pointed out that many Sri Lankan students pursue higher education in China through scholarships, while professionals and academics from both countries participate in exchange programmes that enhance mutual understanding.
The Ambassador outlined six defining characteristics of Chinese youth:
- Patriotism – A strong sense of national pride, actively promoting the country’s image and contributing to society through cultural and volunteer activities.
- Hard work and adaptability – Willingness to explore diverse career paths, including grassroots and rural opportunities, with a growing interest in entrepreneurship.
- Innovation – Active involvement in scientific research and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
- Commitment to learning – Emphasis on lifelong education through reading, online learning, and continuous skill development.
- Practical lifestyles – Preference for value-driven consumption, sustainability, and meaningful life experiences over luxury.
- Global engagement – Active participation in international exchanges, fostering cross-cultural understanding.
He expressed optimism about the future of Sri Lanka–China relations, stating that shared aspirations among young people in both countries will strengthen cooperation in areas such as technology, education, and infrastructure.
The Ambassador also encouraged Sri Lankan youth to deepen collaboration and build lasting friendships with their Chinese counterparts, contributing to long-term bilateral development and mutual prosperity.
