Special Traffic Plan Announced for Vietnamese President’s Visit to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Police has announced a special traffic management plan in Colombo in connection with the official visit of Tô Lâm from May 7 to May 8.

According to the Colombo Traffic Division, traffic restrictions will be imposed intermittently along several major roads during VIP movements.

Arrival – May 7 (Night)

Following arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, the presidential convoy is expected to travel via the Colombo Katunayake Expressway and several roads within Colombo, including Baseline Road, Borella, Horton Place, Galle Road, and York Street.

Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the designated route two hours before the convoy movement, while all other vehicles will face temporary restrictions during the convoy’s transit.

May 8 – Presidential Secretariat & Official Engagements

Traffic restrictions will also be imposed during movements to the Presidential Secretariat Sri Lanka, the Public Library, Parliament, and the President’s House.

Affected roads include:

  • Galle Face Roundabout
  • Kollupitiya Junction
  • Liberty Roundabout
  • Dharmapala Mawatha
  • Horton Place
  • Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha
  • Nearby connecting roads

Departure – May 8 (Evening)

The convoy is expected to depart Colombo via York Street, Bank Mawatha, and the Port Access Road towards the airport through the expressway network.

Public Advisory

Police have advised motorists to use alternative routes and expect intermittent traffic delays throughout May 7 and 8 due to VIP security arrangements.

Heavy vehicles will be restricted two hours before convoy movements, while other vehicles may experience temporary road closures during the passage of the presidential motorcade.
