The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning affecting several parts of Sri Lanka.
The advisory, issued at noon today (08), will remain in effect until 11:30 p.m.
According to the Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur after 1:00 p.m. in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central, Uva, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.
The Department further warned that temporary localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage and risks caused by lightning activity and strong winds.
